Weekly Recap #473 October 29th – Kartrider Drift Beta Incoming, Transformers in SMITE, and More

JamesBl0nde recaps the MMO gaming news for the week of October 29, 2021! Transcript follows.

Bloodhunt listens to its players in its latest Community Patch, Gwent kicks off season 7 of Journey, Sword of Legends online joins in on the Halloween fun for its first annual event and its time to treat and hopefully not trick yourself into picking up all the games in the Halloween Steam sale!

What’s good everyone, JamesBl0nde here with the weekly recap for gaming news and announcements for the week of October 29th, 2021 and starting out this very short news this week…

Nexon announced that KartRider: Drift, its upcoming cross-platform free to play racer, will be having its closed beta from December 8th, 4pm Pacific through December 15th, 5am Pacific. The beta will be available through PC, Steam, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. This new KartRider game promises to feature a lot more customization, including player-created kart skins, plus cross-platform play on the smoothness of the Unreal 4 engine. It’s great to see KartRider returning so if you get a chance, head to the link down below and register for the beta!

Also late last week Path of Exile’s Scourge expansion and league went live! As a summary the expansion introduces six new items, improvements to the Atlas of Worlds, major tweaks to the passive skill tree, new end game content, new skill gems, automatically-collected Artifacts, and much more – in addition to the challenging new Scourge League. If you missed our in depth coverage, make sure to check out the link below for that video as well.

Meanwhile the Elder God Wars arc continues in RuneScape with the recent release of the TzekHaar Front, a challenging new battle for the RuneScape elite. Players will face off against the forces of Ful in pure combat, with a chance of collecting the newest best in slot cape – with a lit-up lava flow feel – or a new 2 handed sword, new magic ability, boss pet, and more.

Well, SMITE’s had crossover events with Stranger Things, Avatar, even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – and another one is just around the corner as SMITE has announced a new collab with Transformers! The Autobots and Decepticons will arrive as skins in the Transformers Battle Pass, and each has two forms – one in the SMITE art style, which is awesome, and one in the Transformers Generation style from the 80s. Now I’m an old dude so this style hits home for me! That’s the transformers I grew up watching. There will also be additional cosmetics including a ward skin, loading frame, and level up effects. At this point it kinda seems like SMITE can score any major media as a collab – let us know in the comments what would you’d like to see them collab next?

In other news, Bloodhunt has released a new update this week, nicknamed the Community Patch as it focuses on community requested changes to the game. Featured in the patch are reduced pre-and-post match timers, the ability for solo players to queue up for a new match without going back to the lobby, and a new duos mode that will alternate with the trios mode. There’s also improvements to kill credits and assists, free daily rewards and challenges, new high tier loot locations, and more. Check out the full patch notes linked below!

Next up GWENT, the Witcher card game, has now released its 7th season of Journey. The update brings over 80 rewards to unlock in two tiers – a free tier that includes avatars, borders, and reward points, plus a premium tier that also offers cardbacks, coins, music tracks, titles, and skins and outfits for Regis. Meanwhile each week new quests will offer a vampire themed story. In addition, the game’s annual Halloween event, Saovine, has begun and features additional special quests that offer a title, avatar, and border rewards. Additional items will be on sale in the GWENT store until November 4th, while the seventh season will continue for three months.

Also joining in on the last batch of Halloween events, Sword of Legends Online has rolled out a new update, and the star of it is the first ever Halloween event! This includes the special game activity, Pumpkins versus Hunters, a 3v3 game of hide-and-seek with useful Halloween Event Tokens on the line for the winning team. There are new costume looks available featuring a dramatic gothic vampire look, and new extreme raid difficulties for Ice World and Ruins of Nuowu. With the next major update pending announcement, and the new PvP season a couple weeks away, it’s time to kick back and enjoy some seasonal fun.

Finally let’s hit on the free game of the week in the Epic Game Store – it’s Darq Complete Edition! This is a psychological horror puzzle game, almost has a platformer feel but requires stealth and avoiding combat to solve the mystery ahead of you. It’s only a few hours long but it includes all the DLC and makes another great weekend game ahead of Halloween – or save it for Halloween night! Oh and I should also mention – the Steam halloween sale is ongoing now! It only runs until November 2nd so make sure to check your wishlist and browse for any deals on some really  great games.

But with that said, that’s about it for all the major news and announcements for this week. Be sure to stay safe, and keep your families healthy!
