PAX Prime 2015 Final Recap
Eon Altar
Eon Altar is a game on Steam that’s pretty unique in its own right. Couch Co-Op is not something that you see much anymore, but Eon Altar looks to change that. It’s a dungeon crawler, with up to four players that play on the same PC (or TV if you’re into that) on the same Steam account. So as long as one person has it, everyone can play. I did not experience the actual story dungeon crawling, but another game mode, a survival mode that was basically turn-based combat with your party doing battle with slowly pushing in hordes of enemies. This mode by itself was a lot of fun, and I appreciate as long as one person can play, everyone can; in this day and age, not having the right DLC or update can mean one person cannot enjoy a game with their friends, and I really appreciate the consideration they put into this.
There is more though! Eon Altar is stand out in a few ways. Now you might be asking yourself: “Ragachak, how are we going to find four USB ports for controllers on one PC? Do you know how much shit I have connected to my computer?” Why, that’s easy my friend! You use your mobile device or tablet! That’s right, you download an app on Google Play or Apple Store, and you control your character that way. The game is not played there, just motion/attacking. All you need is a smart phone and you can play this game! The other real feature that takes me back to the 80s: Friendly Fire! Yeah, you can forget safety. When we played this at Pax Prime, our wizard almost killed the entire party with fireball, so me, being vengeful righteous, killed him! We may not have won, but I took a moral victory. Eon Altar is bringing back the Couch-Co-Op made famous by games like Gauntlet, Battletoads, and their ilk.
