PAX West 2016 Day Two Recap

PAX West 2016 Day Two Recap

Elder Scrolls Online (Bethesda)

Elder Scrolls Online is finally doing the thing that will make it more like the Elder Scrolls games that players enjoy around the world! They call it “One Tamriel” and I cover this in an interview with the fantastic ESO staff (which you can check out below).

One Tamriel will open the world like never before: you will scale up to areas that are out of your reach normally, so now you can go where you please and adventure how you like! And an area that was normally locked into group play will be soloable [but retain group elements] so that people who wanted to but couldn’t find help in that area will now be able to enjoy it! Gear is easier to attain, zones have cool set armor that you can collect and it won’t be a mystery on how to attain it.

Grouping up will be much funner.

Now your friends can play with you no matter their level because level sync will occur. That was the biggest fear to me: All of my friends who play ESO are so much higher level than me, I can never do content with them. But it’s something I’ve seen in the DLC I reviewed, so I’m ultimately happy that I will be able to explore where I please, and won’t be locked into doing my character’s story if I don’t want. If I feel up to trekking into the wilderness, I can!

They talked briefly about the ESO: Gold Edition, but it’s nothing we didn’t already know: It’ll be on all consoles the game is on, and comes with the first four major DLC packs. This is probably the best way to get people into the game so they can look at the content in the order that suits them, thanks to the One Tamriel initiative. I tried it out myself on their test servers and I had a lot of fun, even if I didn’t get far! I wandered the land and did whatever suited me at the time and gained exp. They’re trying to make it feel more like the Elder Scrolls franchise, and the keyword is “freedom.” Freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want without fear of “Crap, they’re too strong, gotta go back to Newbieford or something.” Kudos, folks! It’s a really good idea that a lot of games are jumping on right now.
