Weekly Recap #497 June 3rd – Diablo Immortal Launch, Paladins x RWBY & More!

What’s good everyone, JamesBl0nde here with the weekly recap for gaming news and announcements for the week of June 3rd, 2022 and it’s a short and sweet week thanks to the Memorial Day holiday in the States, so short that, if I had included the normal intro, it would have covered the jest of the news itself, but either way let’s get to it.

Blizzard has launched Diablo Immortal this week, its free to play, MMO style Diablo game designed for mobile. But even if you don’t have a worthy phone, or don’t want to play it on a phone, Diablo Immortal’s also got a PC client available in beta! The game offers six classes right now and explores the story between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. So far it’s had mixed impressions, particularly around the game’s microtransactions. I’ve linked an article from MassivelyOP below that takes a look at some of those issues if you want to do your research before downloading.

If you’ve been waiting to hear more about Gundam Evolution, good news – better news if you have a console! The developers have announced they are now taking sign ups for the console network test, which will run from June 23rd through June 28th and take place on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series XS. Gundam Evolution is a team-based FPS with 6v6 combat, and will be free to play on launch. If you want to participate, going to want to make sure you check the link below.

Back over to more blizzard news, a new update is live for Hearthstone, starring the new Throne of Tides Mini-Set. This new set features 35 collectible cards, available in Voyage to the Sunken City Packs or via a stand alone purchase in the game’s shop. The update also features a return of Diablo to the battlegrounds to celebrate the launch of Diablo Immortal, plus another new hero and minion. Mercenaries will be enjoying a limited time event from June 7th through June 21st starring Y’Shaarj. All that and more has arrived so make sure to check in and see what’s happening.

First they came to SMITE – and now the team from RWBY is ready to kick ass in Hi Rez’s Paladins! Available this month, the crossover will bring six new skins featuring the main team characters plus Uncle Qrow and Salem, some voiced by their original actresses. The RWBY team characters will be part of the upcoming new Crossover Pass, and Qrow and Salem will be available in a chest as well as for direct purchase. Check it out if you’re a fan of the show!
The next chapter of Vigor’s Chronicle series is now live! Called Absolution, the new update continues the story behind Vigor’s setting, exploring themes of morality in a post-apocalyptic world, along with a new battle pass that contains 75 levels of rewards. The update also includes an overhaul of the Elimination game mode, a new Elimination map, a rework for machine guns, rerolls for challenges, and much more. Make sure to check out the full trailer and patch notes as the team continues to deliver quality content for its players.

Finally let’s check out what’s free on the Epic Games Store this week – its another one I’m super, super into, it’s Wolfenstein: The New Order! If you’re not familiar, this is an epic first person shooter from Bethesda set in their anti-Nazi Wolfenstein series. You’ll go up against super soldiers and even walking mechs in this single player shooter and it’s definitely, definitely, worth grabbing at the price of free.
