RuneScape has announced its special Valentine’s Day event, being held this weekend, February 12-13.

The Valentine’s Day Massacre will be set in the Wilderness, and hold a massive fight-a-thon on both days, including a clan battle in the Player Killing Run In event. Crafters and traders will be encouraged to set up shop for the battling players nearby in a marketplace, and a forum event will also let players guess the carnage that will ensue.

RuneScape is published by Jagex, which also publishes War of Legends.

RUNESCAPE HOSTS A BLOODTHIRSTY VALENTINE’S DAY WEEKEND

JAGEX GAMES STUDIO ANNOUNCES A BLOODTHIRSTY SERIES OF COMMUNITY EVENTS TO CELEBRATE THE VALENTINE’S DAY WEEKEND

Cambridge, UK – Wednesday 9th February 2011 – Jagex Games Studio, developer of RuneScape, the world’s most popular free-to-play MMORPG, today announced a weekend of events to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The community events will be set in the newly restored Wilderness player verses player arena of RuneScape.

Kicking off the series of events will be the community’s biggest ever fight-a-thon – the RuneScape Valentine’s Day Massacre – running Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th February. During the fight-a-thon players will be creating their own death inducing events and clans will battle one another in the Player Killing Run In event to see which clan will be hailed victorious!

If you’d rather not take part in the bloodthirsty Massacre, then there are numerous other ways to get involved.  Jagex are holding a marketplace themed event for players who prefer crafting or trading items, allowing entrepreneurial players to gain wealth by supplying the items needed for player verses player combat.

The community management team are also hosting a competition where players can guess the level of carnage throughout the Valentine’s weekend. For full details about any of the events being run in RuneScape and the Valentine’s Day competition, please visit the  RuneScape forums.

The Wilderness arena and free trade were reinstated to the game at the beginning of the month following RuneScape’s first player referendum. A staggering 1.2million players took part in the referendum with over 90% of the voters supporting the reintroduction of free trade and the Wilderness.  In the first seven days since the return of free trade, more than 33 trillion gold pieces worth of items and currency have been traded between players.
