Ryu Ranger Joins Power Rangers: Legacy Wars

Iconic Street Fighter character Ryu is crossing over into the Morphin Grid, as an addition to the Rangers cast of Power Rangers: Legacy Wars from nWay. This was announced at San Diego Comic-Con by way of nWay, Hasbro, Capcom, and Lionsgate. Ryu Ranger will allow players to wield gravitational Hadoken-blasting, Shoryuken-striking powers of Ryu in Power Ranger form as a brand new character. Ryu is drawn into the Morphin Grid and was presented with the “Crimson Hawk Power Coin”, allowing him to morph into the Ryu Ranger and team up to do battle against M. Bison and Rita Repulsa. The power of the Hado combines with the Power Coin, allowing him to wield his powers in new and interesting ways.

In order to tell this story, nWay, Hasbro and Lionsgate are teaming with Qualcomm, G Fuel, and “Bat in the Sun” productions, famous for Super Power Beat Down, to produce a short film. This is entitled Power Rangers vs. Street Fighter [Not the final title], and a teaser was shown at Comic-Con by Mighty Morphin Power Rangers star Jason David Frank. The full length short film will be released this fall, and in addition to the video, the partnership group will also be hosting in-game Power Rangers: Legacy Wars tournaments at San Diego Comic-Con and giving real-world prizes such as Razer powers powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile Platform, and Power Rangers G Fuel shakers.

“With more than 36 million installations and 500 million matches played, Power Rangers: Legacy Wars has truly created its own universe and it only continues to grow in popularity,”
said Taehoon Kim, CEO of nWay. “In addition to a AAA game with a large and growing player base and esports scene, we’re introducing one-of-a-kind crossovers and collaborations, as well as creating brand new characters between titles. Nobody has seen anything like the Ryu Ranger before.”
