HoYoverse Reportedly Plans Massive AI Investment Over Three Years
HoYoverse, the company behind Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero, is reportedly planning to invest up to $14.6 billion in AI over the next three years.
According to GameLook, via GamingonPhoneBiz, the plan was discussed during a private technology and recruitment session held on May 15 for master’s and doctoral students. HoYoverse co-founder Liu Wei reportedly outlined the company’s longer-term push into internal AI development during the event.
The reported plan would see HoYoverse build more of its own AI infrastructure, including GPU clusters, training systems, and application architecture, instead of relying only on outside AI models. The company is said to be looking at AI for NPC behavior, automation, content generation, and live-service tools.
One specific project mentioned is Petit Planet, HoYoverse’s upcoming life simulation game, which is expected to feature AI-powered NPCs. The source doesn’t give a release date or detailed gameplay breakdown for how those systems will work in practice.
The scale of the reported investment is the headline here. AI is already a growing part of game development, but a multi-year, in-house push of this size would put HoYoverse among the more aggressive publishers moving in that direction. For now, though, the details come from reports around a private session rather than a broad public announcement from the company.
