Chrono Odyssey Producer Explains Build Balance, Supporters, and Monster Gear Plans

Chrono Odyssey executive producer Sang-Tae Yun answered 15 community questions in the game’s Discord, following up on Developer’s Note #5 with more detail on progression, build variety, and how Chrono Studio plans to handle balance over time.

The Matrix System was the main focus. Yun said the team isn’t planning to balance every individual node in isolation. Instead, Chrono Studio will look at full builds across different content and make seasonal adjustments if certain setups become too dominant. Players also won’t be able to unlock every node on one character, so builds are meant to involve choices rather than a full checklist.

Respeccing Matrix nodes will use in-game currency, not real money. Points will come mainly from leveling, though some progression routes will ask players to gather resources tied to specific content.

Yun also clarified how monster equipment works. Gear drops as complete pieces from monsters, so players won’t need to farm materials just to craft them. That said, completing a full set will still mean repeatedly hunting the relevant creatures. Monster gear appearances can also be used through a wardrobe-style system that separates cosmetics from stats, letting players keep their best gear equipped while changing how they look. A dye system is being reviewed, but it isn’t confirmed.

The Supporter System is not being pitched as a full companion feature. Yun described supporters as temporary NPC help for players struggling with solo content. They have fixed roles and are meant to smooth out difficulty spikes, while co-op with other players remains separate. Using a supporter may limit some bonus rewards, but players can replay content without one to earn those rewards later.

Chrono Odyssey is still in active testing, and no release date has been announced.
