Square Enix profit jumps 175.7% as Final Fantasy XIV holds steady ahead of Evercold

Square Enix reported a much stronger quarter this week, with profit up 175.7% to 13.2 billion yen, or about $82.9 million USD. Operating income rose nearly 89%, while net sales also increased, according to the company’s latest financial report.

The gains were driven mainly by Square Enix’s game business. The company pointed to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s performance on additional platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, as one of the key contributors.

Final Fantasy XIV also saw sales increase, though operating income only rose slightly. Square Enix said that was partly because of spending tied to preparation for the MMO’s next expansion, Evercold, which is currently planned for early 2027. The company also said the expansion’s announcement helped lift the game’s numbers during the quarter.

The report groups Final Fantasy XIV with Dragon Quest X in the company’s MMO-related results. Dragon Quest X also had fresh content near the end of the reporting period, with its latest expansion launching in late June.

The better results come as Square Enix continues its broader restructuring push after a rough couple of years financially. A big part of that plan has been moving more releases to multiple platforms instead of keeping them locked to one ecosystem. Recent and upcoming examples include Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster, Dragon Quest XI on Switch 2, and Kingdom Hearts Collection III across Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows through the Microsoft Store.
