HoYoverse reveals Nodus Fall, a co-op action game with giant monsters and dark fantasy vibes

HoYoverse announced Nodus Fall during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, giving a first look at a co-op action game that’s a clear shift from the studio’s usual anime RPG lane.

The reveal trailer leaned hard into dark fantasy: massive beasts, ruined landscapes, oversized weapons, winged monsters, dragons, and warriors clashing with creatures that look built for group hunts. HoYoverse hasn’t shared platforms, a release window, or beta plans yet, so for now the main confirmed detail is the genre. It’s a co-op action game.

The trailer also introduced some lore, though not much in the way of plain explanation. The setup seems to involve vanished gods and figures called Weavers using divine power to “sunder the dread Nodus.” Beyond that, HoYoverse is mostly keeping the story and structure under wraps.

Nodus Fall stands out because it doesn’t look much like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, or Zenless Zone Zero. It has more in common, at least visually, with big-monster action games and grim fantasy RPGs: heavy armor, brutal environments, enormous enemies, and fights that appear designed around multiple players.

It’s also another sign that HoYoverse is branching out. The studio recently announced Petit Planet, a cozy life sim, and Varsapura, a more modern urban action project. Nodus Fall looks like the darkest of the bunch so far, but until HoYoverse shows actual gameplay systems, party size, platforms, or monetization details, there’s still a lot we don’t know.
