WoW’s Curse of Ula’tek Patch Opens the Coiled Isle and Adds New Endeavors
Blizzard has shared more details on Curse of Ula’tek, the first major patch for World of Warcraft’s Midnight expansion. The update sends players to the Coiled Isle, a new area previously hidden behind magical mists, and continues the Amani storyline with new quests, activities, and Endeavors.
The Coiled Isle is tied to the old Amani Empire, but Blizzard is positioning it as more than another Zul’Aman-style zone. Associate Game Director Paul Kubit described it as a sprawling archipelago with haunted areas, venom-filled regions, and a large interior beneath Fanged Peak. That mountain space also acts as a hub of sorts, with access to the new dungeon and raid, plus other activities in the area.
One of those side activities is fishing. The patch includes a fishing questline with Captain Tokka, and players won’t need to have leveled fishing in Midnight to start it. Kubit said players who begin from scratch should likely reach expert fishing by the end of the questline. There’s also a new fishing pole reward that can turn the player into a snake, grants underwater breathing, and boosts swim speed.
Lead Quest Designer Rachel Vought also clarified a few story points. Players will experience part of the ancient battle against Kith’ix through ritual magic, though not the same kind of vision magic used in earlier haranir content. A priestess hinted at in the Revelations quest chain will be involved. Vought also said Ula’tek is not a loa, but a creature pulled from the Rift of Aln, described as malicious, venomous, and many-headed.
Endeavors are getting new options too. The first cycle will automatically select the Amani Endeavor for everyone, so players aren’t forced to choose between the new patch content and their weekly tasks. Most of those objectives will focus on the Coiled Isle, though some may send players back to Zul’Aman.
Other Endeavors are on the way after that. The Tortollan Endeavor will send Horde players to Zuldazar and Alliance players to Kul Tiras, while the Ohn’ahran Centaur Endeavor will lean heavily into bakar, the centaurs’ dog-like companions.
