WoW private server Stormforge says it will shut down on May 14 after Blizzard cease-and-desist
Another World of Warcraft private server is on the way out. Stormforge said it will end operations on May 14, 2026, after receiving a cease-and-desist and holding what it described as follow-up talks with a legal representative for Blizzard.
According to the official post, Stormforge’s realms will stay online until that date, but new account registration has already been disabled. The team also said there won’t be any more content updates, and that the website and Discord server will be shut down as part of the closure.
That makes Stormforge the latest notable WoW private server to close after Blizzard’s recent legal push. TurtleWoW was the highest-profile case and recently announced its own sunset following a court settlement, but it wasn’t the only server affected. Stormforge appears to be winding down without going through the same public court fight.
The developers said they’re done with Blizzard-related private server work, though they also hinted they’re moving on to a separate project based on their own ideas. They didn’t share much else about that yet.
Blizzard still hasn’t publicly laid out why some WoW private servers have been targeted more aggressively than others, at least based on what’s been disclosed so far. But for players on Stormforge, the practical part is simple enough: existing realms remain playable for a few more weeks, and then the server goes dark on May 14.
