WoW Hotfixes Raise Rated PvP Inflation and Fix Venomous Abyss Targeting

Blizzard’s September 17, 2026 hotfixes for World of Warcraft make a notable change for rated PvP players: rating inflation has been significantly increased across all rated modes. The adjustment puts extra focus on Battleground Blitz, Rated Battlegrounds, and Rated 3v3 Arena, with Blizzard saying current achievable ratings have been falling short of expectations.

The change is live as part of the latest hotfix batch, though Blizzard notes that some fixes may still require scheduled realm restarts. The studio says it will keep watching rating distribution and make more adjustments if needed as the season continues.

  • Rated PvP rating inflation has been significantly increased across all rated PvP modes, especially Battleground Blitz, Rated Battlegrounds, and Rated 3v3 Arena.
  • The Font of Venomous Rage trinket now deals 50% less damage in PvP combat.
  • In The Venomous Abyss, The Coiled Altar encounter has been fixed so Unnerving Fixation should no longer target tanks more often than intended.
  • In Ruby Life Pools, Blazebound Destroyers and Primalist Flamedancers should now properly count toward enemy forces if they die without any player on their threat table.

There is one small tradeoff with the Ruby Life Pools fix. Blizzard says those enemies will no longer show their enemy forces contribution in the default UI tooltip, which may be noticeable for Mythic+ players tracking dungeon percentage closely.

The hotfix list applies across the wider WoW lineup, including World of Warcraft: Midnight, Mists of Pandaria Classic, Season of Discovery, Burning Crusade Classic, WoW Classic Era, and Hardcore, though the biggest gameplay-facing changes here are clearly aimed at current rated PvP and dungeon players.
