World of Warcraft: Forever’s Legacy System makes progression account-wide
World of Warcraft: Forever will include a new account-wide Legacy System, giving players a way to build long-term progression through leveling, professions, PvP, exploration, dungeons, and raids. It’s horizontal progression, so the focus is on unlocking perks and cosmetics across the account rather than directly replacing gear progression.
The system opens once a player earns their first Legacy Point. For most players, that’ll happen when a character reaches level 25, though it can also unlock through hitting 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill or exploring the full world map. Legacy Points are Battle.net account-wide and apply to non-Hardcore characters.
There are 65 Legacy Challenges at launch, split across six categories:
- Classes: 27 points for reaching levels 25, 45, and 60 on each class.
- Tradeskills: 18 points for reaching 150, 225, and 300 skill in non-gathering primary professions.
- PvP: 12 points tied to PvP ranks, Battleground reputations, and Field of Honor season quests.
- Adventure: 2 points for full world exploration on one character and the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline.
- Dungeons: 3 points for clearing final bosses across level 15 to 60 dungeon brackets.
- Raids: 3 points for defeating Onyxia, Hyjal Summit bosses, and Barrow Deeps bosses.
Each character can spend Legacy Points separately, so one alt can lean into professions while another picks perks for travel, reputation, PvP, or general adventuring. At launch, each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points. The cap is meant to keep longtime players from pulling too far ahead, and the developers say it’s possible to reach that cap on a single character without rolling alts.
Perks include faster tradeskill gains, reduced vendor costs, improved rested experience, faster corpse runs, cheaper and faster flights, increased reputation gains, reduced durability damage from death, and reagent savings for class abilities. Some perks also tie into newer systems, including camping features and the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics factions.
Legacy Points also build toward account rewards. At launch, those include the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, a Spectral Bear Cub pet, a Spectral Bear Tabard, and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount.
Hardcore won’t be available at launch, but it will have separate Legacy rules when it arrives. Non-Hardcore challenges won’t carry into Hardcore, while Hardcore challenge completions will count for other rulesets. PvP Legacy Challenges won’t be available in Hardcore, so that mode will get 12 Hardcore-specific challenges instead.
