World of Warcraft: Forever Aims for Four-Month Raid Tiers and PC Gamepad Support at Launch
World of Warcraft: Forever launches November 4, and Blizzard is starting to put clearer lines around what this version of WoW is and isn’t trying to be. In recent interviews, principal game designer Kris Zierhut and lead Classic designer Tim Jones said the team is aiming for a patch rhythm of roughly every four months, with raid tiers and PvP seasons landing about three times a year.
Zierhut said Blizzard has been testing different content speeds across Classic-era WoW since 2019. Long gaps of six to eight months felt too slow, while Season of Discovery’s eight-to-ten-week pace felt too fast. Forever’s plan sits in the middle, with smaller timed unlocks between major patches so players aren’t just waiting in silence between raid tiers.
Forever will mix familiar Classic content with new material built for the same world. Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, and Ahn’Qiraj are still part of the broader plan, but the timeline is slower and Forever won’t begin with Molten Core. Blizzard is also adding new areas like Riverglades and its ogre dungeon, plus newer concepts such as the Skyborne and Zephras.
Jones also showed off Shaper’s Terrace, a new dungeon at the northern end of Un’Goro Crater with ties to Wrath-era titan locations. Gilneas terrain is already in the game, and the team wants to eventually tell a new story there. The team also mentioned interest in the Emerald Dream, Grim Batol, and a version of Mudsprocket in southern Dustwallow Marsh.
Blizzard is keeping the focus on Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Zierhut said places like the Dark Portal, Northrend, and Pandaria exist and could be used for small trips, such as a dungeon or quest, but Forever won’t add new capital cities outside the original continents. Capital cities, auction houses, and innkeepers stay in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.
Player housing also isn’t planned right now, even though Zierhut called it an interesting idea. Silvermoon is on Blizzard’s long-term wish list, but with the city currently a major focus in retail WoW, Forever is looking elsewhere for now.
At launch, Forever will include dual spec, five-player dungeons, and raids for 10, 20, and 40 players. Native gamepad support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers will also be available on PC. Blizzard has talked openly about broader platform ambitions, but it has not announced a console version of World of Warcraft: Forever.
