World of Warcraft 12.0.5 PTR adds Void Assaults, Ritual Sites, and a prop hunt-style mode

Blizzard has started previewing World of Warcraft update 12.0.5, and the patch is now live on the PTR. The next Midnight update adds a mix of world content, gearing systems, and a lighter side activity, with the biggest additions centered on fighting back against the Void in Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman.

According to Blizzard’s official post, players will be able to take on rotating Void Assaults, run small-group Ritual Sites, use a new Voidforge progression system, and queue for Decor Duels, which is basically a team-based prop hunt in Silvermoon City.

  • Void Strikes will rotate weekly between Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman, with larger Void Incursions triggering after enough strikes are completed.
  • Ritual Sites are 1-to-5-player instances where players choose challenge modifiers as they climb tiers for better rewards.
  • Both activities award Field Accolades, a currency used to buy Champion- and Heroic-quality gear.
  • Ritual Sites will also count toward the Great Vault’s world content row, alongside Delves and Prey.
  • Voidforge lets players transmute Voidcores earned from Season 1 raids, Mythic+, Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare-difficulty Prey Hunts into gear, with later upgrades for weapons and trinkets.
  • Decor Duels is a hide-and-seek mode accessed through Group Finder’s PvP tab, with rewards including a mount, toys, and housing decor.
  • Abyss Anglers adds a repeatable fishing event off the coast of Zul’Aman, where players spear fish, earn points, and unlock diving upgrades and cosmetics.

The practical takeaway is that 12.0.5 looks like a fairly broad mid-cycle patch. It’s adding more outdoor and small-group content for players who want another route to gear up, while also tossing in a couple of side activities that are more about quick rewards and messing around.

Blizzard hasn’t given a final release date for 12.0.5 in this preview, so for now it’s a PTR patch. If you want to see how these systems are shaping up before they go live, that’s where they’re available.
