The Elder Scrolls Online Is Adding Solo Versions of Two Wolfhunter Dungeons in Season Two
ZeniMax Online Studios has outlined the solo versions of Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices coming to The Elder Scrolls Online with Season Two on October 21. Both dungeons originally launched as part of the Wolfhunter DLC, which will become free for all players on October 19.
The new solo dungeon versions will also be free for every ESO player, like the rest of the seasonal content. The idea is pretty straightforward: let players experience these dungeon stories without needing a group, while still leaving room for harder runs if they want a challenge.
Senior Encounter Designer Sean Wicks said players have been soloing group dungeons since ESO launched, but that’s not something most players can reasonably do. For these new versions, ZeniMax has adjusted group mechanics, retuned ability values, and made the encounters more practical for one player.
Companions are part of the design, too. Senior Encounter Designer Lauren Kaiser said some mechanics were rebuilt around solo play with a Companion, including mechanics that can specifically target the Companion instead of the player.
Difficulty is handled through Meted Misfortunes. At the entrance to each solo dungeon, players can interact with a pile of armor and weapons to activate modifiers. One example, Warm Welcome, doubles incoming damage. Each Misfortune also raises enemy and boss stats and can give them more abilities. Players can activate up to three at once, with three creating the Dauntless version.
Rewards include the new Undaunted Crest currency, with higher difficulties paying out more. Crests can be spent with Veya Thenim in an Undaunted Enclave on items such as Cultivated Cryptpod alchemy reagents and style materials. The solo dungeons can also drop two new two-piece monster sets, style pages, bust and trophy furnishings, Nowhere Keys, legendary Companion chests, and legendary two-handed melee weapons. Many of those rewards scale with difficulty.
Season Two: Echoes of Skyrim starts October 21 and is scheduled to run until January 27, 2027.
