Soul’s Remnant Sets Steam Early Access Date for August 13
Soul’s Remnant, the free-to-play 2D platformer MMORPG from indie developer Chaomoon, is heading to Steam Early Access on August 13. The date is a small shift from its earlier August 5 target, with the team moving it back to avoid overlapping with Nexon’s MapleStory Classic World test running August 4 through August 12.
That’s not a random comparison. Soul’s Remnant is pretty open about its MapleStory influence, from its side-scrolling MMO setup to its classless character building. Chaomoon started the project solo back in 2016, and a second developer, Rajah, joined in 2025 to help with updates.
According to the Steam page, the Early Access build will include 72 skills across melee, ranged, magic, and faith paths, with no fixed classes locking players into one role. The team also lists more than 1,000 items, around 200 weapons, 700 crafting recipes, 19 bosses, three dungeons, over 200 maps, and 150 quests.
There are also life skills like fishing, mining, and herbalism, plus an auction house and player-run shop stalls for the in-game economy. Chaomoon composed the soundtrack as well, which currently includes more than 30 tracks.
The game is planned to stay free-to-play through Early Access and beyond, with monetization focused on cosmetics and convenience items. The team estimates Early Access will last six to twelve months.
One practical note for beta players: character wipes are expected to stop when Early Access begins on August 13. From that point on, progress should carry forward.
