Path of Exile server issues are being blamed on ongoing DDoS attacks
Grinding Gear Games says Path of Exile’s recent connection problems are being caused by “very persistent and targeted” DDoS attacks aimed at the game’s backend. In a brief statement, the studio said the disruptions have been hitting players for several days and apologized for the ongoing disconnects.
According to GGG, it’s been working with service providers on mitigations, and those steps have helped to some extent. Still, the studio said it won’t consider the problem solved until the disconnections actually stop.
The server trouble has been especially noticeable since the Mirage update went live. Alongside the connection issues, Grinding Gear has also been pushing out fixes on the game side. A fourth hotfix recently went out with crash fixes and a fix for a bug affecting Spectral Shield Throw.
Path of Exile is the long-running free-to-play action RPG from Grinding Gear Games, and server stability problems tend to hit hard in a loot-driven game where players are constantly zoning between instances. For now, if you’ve been getting kicked or struggling to stay connected, GGG’s message is basically that the issue is known, outside attacks are part of the cause, and work is still ongoing.
