Monsters and Memories dev team says key developer has left ahead of early access
Monsters and Memories is dealing with a notable team change just as it heads through beta and toward its planned June 1 early access launch. Niche Worlds Cult said this week that developer Nick is no longer part of the project.
In a message shared on Discord, the studio said beta testing and development are still continuing as planned, and that it sees no immediate impact to its posted target dates. According to the official post, the team won’t be sharing more details beyond that and is asking players not to speculate publicly about the situation.
The departure stands out because Nick appeared to be one of the more visible members of the team. He was still listed on the game’s team page at the time of the announcement, and players had identified him as a lead developer tied to class design as well as community-facing streams.
Studio representative Shawn Lord repeated the same basic message on Reddit, saying comments that are defamatory or derogatory would be removed and that the team is limited in what it can say. So for now, there’s no public explanation for the exit beyond the studio’s short statement.
The timing has also drawn attention because it came shortly after a delay to that week’s beta lottery, which Lord said was caused by issues with the current beta build. The studio hasn’t directly linked the two situations, and at this point it hasn’t said that the early access date is changing.
Monsters and Memories is an old-school MMORPG built around group-focused PvE and classic EverQuest-style design. With early access close, players will probably be watching the next beta updates pretty closely to see whether the team sticks to that June 1 target.
