Honkai: Star Rail 4.2 launches April 22 with new 5-stars and third anniversary rewards

HoYoverse says Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.2, “So Laughed the Masses,” goes live on April 22. The update adds two new 5-star characters, pushes the Planarcadia storyline forward, and lines up the game’s third anniversary rewards ahead of April 26.

The biggest player-facing extras are the anniversary freebies. Version 4.2 brings back the Festive Gifts login event for 20 pulls, and on the anniversary date itself players can claim 1,600 Stellar Jades through the usual blessing card event. Huohuo and Robin are also being added to the Stellar Convergence store, and HoYoverse says players will be able to use a free Golden Companion Spirit to trade for a character there. The first-time top-up bonus reset is coming back too.

On the character side, 4.2 introduces Silver Wolf LV.999, a 5-star Imaginary unit on the Path of Elation, and Evanescia, a 5-star Physical Elation character. The update also adds the Trailblazer’s Path of Elation form. HoYoverse spent a lot of time on combat specifics, but the short version is that all three are tied to the new Elation mechanics coming with this patch.

The story continues the Phantasmoon Games arc on Planarcadia. This time, the competition’s prize is raised to an extreme new level, with the winner set to become the permanent Aeon of Elation. The next chapter takes players to Seafeld City, where a public debate hosted by Fulwish appears to be the setup for the update’s main conflict.

  • First-half reruns: The Dahlia, Castorice, and Firefly
  • Second-half reruns: Tribbie, Sunday, and Feixiao
  • Character buffs are planned for Firefly, Huohuo, Seele, and Welt
  • New event: Cosmic Data Roaming
  • Currency Wars is getting an expansion
  • Cosmicon Collective gets a 2.0 update with new decks, dice, and a team challenge mode

HoYoverse also teased more anniversary side content, including a new Castorice outfit, additional store updates, and other in-game events during the patch. Outside the game, the company says anniversary celebrations are planned in cities including Tokyo, Seoul, and Los Angeles.

At the end of the version presentation, HoYoverse also showed a concept trailer for “Death in the Afternoon,” an original animation project co-produced with MAPPA.
