Grinding Gear Games Outlines Early Curse of the Allflame Fixes for Path of Exile

Grinding Gear Games has posted its first post-launch rundown for Path of Exile’s Curse of the Allflame update, laying out several problem areas the studio is already working on. The big ones: Charts and Voyages aren’t landing where the team wants them, Abyss encounters need tuning, and permanent Mercenaries tied to the Luminary Ascendancy are getting balance changes.

According to the developer post, some fixes can arrive sooner through hotfixes, while others will have to wait for a proper patch. So don’t expect every change at once.

  • Charts and Voyages are getting reward and usability changes, including new chests and earlier access to Ducat crafting in the Curse of the Allflame meta-progression.
  • Voyages should become easier to construct, with crab nests appearing less often.
  • Currency, scarab, stacked deck, and map chests will become more common as scattered objects to offset that change.
  • Abyss encounters are being adjusted over the next few days, with changes planned for rewards, combat, and monster density.
  • Permanent Mercenaries are being retuned after feedback that they don’t feel strong enough for the investment required.

For Mercenaries, GGG says the damage penalty for permanent hired help will no longer hit all at once. Instead, it’ll scale in over the course of the game, with no penalty before level 45 and the maximum penalty kicking in at level 83. The studio is also adjusting attack damage scaling for hired Mercenaries so they perform better.

It’s the usual early-league cleanup pass, basically. Curse of the Allflame is live now, and GGG is sorting through the parts that didn’t come out quite as intended once players got their hands on the update.
