Final Fantasy XIV patch 7.5 accidentally gave some players an unreleased otter backpack

Final Fantasy XIV patch 7.5, Trail to the Heavens, introduced a weird cosmetic bug this week. Some players logged in to find the unreleased Señor Otter Pack fashion accessory sitting in their inventory, letting them equip the otter-themed backpack even though it hasn’t been properly obtained yet.

According to the official post, the issue happened because the Black Embroidered Parasol was mistakenly assigned the same item ID as the Señor Otter Pack. That caused characters to be flagged for the backpack by accident.

Square Enix says a hotfix is on the way. The same fix is also meant to address a separate text display issue involving Japanese text, along with some problems tied to second dye channels.

For now, the bug doesn’t seem to be causing anything more serious than players briefly getting access to a cosmetic item early. So if you’ve suddenly got an otter backpack in your inventory after 7.5, that’s why.
