Final Fantasy XIV Expands Matchmaking Across Japan Data Centers on October 13
Final Fantasy XIV is getting same-region player matching on its Japan data center starting Tuesday, October 13, 2026, after a 24-hour maintenance period on October 12. Square Enix announced the rollout at Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin.
The change means players on Japan’s physical data center will be able to matchmake and recruit parties across Elemental, Gaia, Mana, and Meteor, instead of being limited to their current logical data center. If the system runs smoothly in Japan, Square Enix plans to bring it to other regions later.
The biggest practical change is simple: more players in the pool for everyday grouping. Duty Finder, Party Finder, and several social systems will work across the full Japan region rather than stopping at logical DC borders.
- Duty Finder will match players across the full Japan physical data center.
- Party Finder listings will be visible across Elemental, Gaia, Mana, and Meteor.
- Crystalline Conflict ranked matchmaking will expand to the physical data center.
- Cross-world Linkshells, PvP Teams, and Fellowships will also work across the region.
- Friend List tells and party invites will work across the physical data center, except while in a duty.
- Free Company chat will work across the physical data center, though joining an FC is still tied to your Home World.
Some things aren’t changing. Linkshells, retainers, and housing remain Home World-only. Market Board and Delivery Moogle rules also stay the same, including where items are listed or collected. Blacklist and mute lists won’t be affected.
World travel inside Japan is changing too. After the update, players will use “Visit Another World Server” at the aetherytes in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, and Ul’dah to visit worlds on another logical data center in the same physical data center. A new dropdown will let players pick the logical data center and world. Data Center Travel will no longer be used for travel between Japan logical data centers, but it will still support travel from Japan to Oceania.
Because cross-world linkshells, PvP Teams, and Fellowships are being merged into one database per physical data center, duplicate names may get a number added after maintenance. Character, retainer, Free Company, and standard linkshell names are not affected.
Players can belong to up to eight cross-world linkshells per physical data center. Anyone who ends up with nine or more after the merge will have the extra channels deactivated until they sort them through the “Organize CWLS” function coming in Patch 7.5.
