EVE Online’s New HUD Will Be Opt-In When Fractured Skies Launches November 10

EVE Online players will get their first hands-on look at the game’s redesigned HUD when the Fractured Skies expansion launches on November 10. Fenris Creations says the new interface will be optional at first, with players able to turn it on or off through the Feature Preview section of the in-game menu.

The new HUD is meant to modernize the look of EVE’s ship controls without changing how flying actually works. A new In Focus dev chat with FC Swift, FC Fozzie, and FC HotPepper walks through the main changes in a roughly 25-minute video, with most of the discussion centered on readability and cleaner information display.

That includes a redesigned speed control, updated shield, armor, and structure readouts, clearer heat displays, and revised capacitor information. The goal, at least for this first public version, seems to be making the same critical combat data easier to parse rather than reworking the core interface from scratch.

Fenris Creations also says the HUD will stay in development for a while after Fractured Skies arrives, giving the team time to collect feedback from players before locking anything down. Given how much EVE pilots rely on the HUD during combat, travel, and fleet operations, keeping it opt-in is probably the safest way to roll this out.
