Albion Online’s Dragonflame Update Adds the Ancient Lands on August 31
Albion Online’s Dragonflame update is set for August 31, and Sandbox Interactive has shared a closer look at one of its main additions: the Ancient Lands, a new portal-based region built around PvE, PvP, and high-risk rewards.
According to the official post, the Ancient Lands are meant for veteran players, sitting in the same broad space as Albion’s Mists and Roads of Avalon: limited-access areas where the danger ramps up fast and the best rewards usually come with a fight attached.
Players will enter through portals that appear in the open world. Smaller portals are aimed at solo players and small groups, while larger portals are announced ahead of time and support groups of up to 20. Portals in the Outlands and Red Zones lead to lethal PvP versions of the region. Yellow Zone portals instead send players to an Orange Zone version, giving groups a lower-risk way to try it out.
Once inside, groups begin on separate outer islands. From there, they can complete island objectives, fight Keeper enemies, earn Fame, and collect Keystones. Those Keystones activate teleporters, opening paths to nearby islands. As more groups unlock routes, the odds of running into other players go up.
The region also includes Drake islands, which offer some of the better rewards if players can clear their objectives. If all four Drakes are defeated, the Fire Drake appears, acting as the major prize encounter for the area.
Dragonflame also introduces a Bleedout mechanic that’s unique to the Ancient Lands. If a player goes down and allies stay nearby, there’s a short window where they can be revived at a cost. Coming back leaves the player weakened by a persistent debuff. If teammates leave them behind, that window closes and they’re done.
