Overview

OVERHIT Overview

OVERHIT was a free-to-play 3D fantasy MMORPG for Android and iOS that aimed to deliver console-like spectacle on mobile, complete with fully voiced story scenes and Unreal Engine 4 powered graphics. The setting spans a universe where different civilizations intersect across time and space in the aftermath of a world-shaking victory over a powerful enemy, giving the story an excuse to jump between cultures, aesthetics, and character types.

Progression centered on assembling a squad from a pool of 120 collectible heroes. Each character came with their own skill set, animations, and voice lines, and the team-building angle was a major part of the appeal. You could invest in favorites, rotate units to meet encounter needs, and fine-tune party composition rather than relying on a single avatar like a traditional MMO.

Combat played out as turn-based RPG battles in the vein of titles like King’s Raid and Epic Seven. Players could allow the game to auto-battle for routine content, or manually time skills for tougher fights. Certain hero pairings enabled linked attacks, while specific debuffs could trigger chain attacks, adding a layer of synergy that rewarded planning. A key wrinkle was that abilities used a shared global cooldown and many skills had long individual cooldowns, so poorly timed bursts could leave your team exposed in higher difficulty stages.

Outside the main story, the game offered a familiar spread of activities, including arenas for PvP, raids and dungeons for gear and materials, and other repeatable modes designed around daily progression. Different activities pushed different team requirements, which helped justify building more than one lineup and gave the hero collection system practical value.

OVERHIT Key Features:

  • 120 Heroes to Collect – recruit a roster of over 120 heroes, each with their own abilities, presentation, and combat role.
  • Detailed 3D Graphics – high-end mobile visuals with flashy skill animations and a story supported by full voice acting.
  • Strategic Gameplay – party building, synergy, and skill timing mattered, especially when manual play replaced auto.
  • Variety of Dungeons – raids, dungeons, daily activities, and other PvE challenges provided progression targets and rewards.
  • Social Features – PvP arenas, guild participation, and guild-versus-guild style content encouraged long-term engagement with others.

Development History / Background:

OVERHIT was developed and published by NEXON, a Korean company recognized for a broad lineup of MMORPGs such as MapleStory 2, Mabinogi, Dungeon Fighter Online, and others. The game first launched in Korea and Japan on November 27, 2017, where it quickly rose in the App Store and reached the top spot in popularity in both regions. It also surpassed one million downloads within its first month.

After that early success, NEXON confirmed plans for an English global release, opening pre-registration on April 17, 2019. The global version arrived on May 30, 2019, but it did not match the original release one-to-one, with players noting changes that included added censorship and lowered gacha rates. Ultimately, OVERHIT’s global service was discontinued, and the game shut down on July 14, 2020.
