WoW: Forever Sets World of Warcraft Launch Records, Blizzard Says

Blizzard says World of Warcraft: Forever has set two new records for the long-running MMO, calling it the biggest launch in WoW history by peak concurrent players and the highest mark for returning players.

The announcement came from the official World of Warcraft account on November 6, two days after WoW: Forever launched on PC. Blizzard did not share specific player counts, so there’s no public number attached to either record.

WoW: Forever is included with the standard World of Warcraft subscription and sits alongside modern WoW and Classic WoW as a separate, permanent version of Azeroth. It’s set after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core, with players leveling from 1 to 60 across the original continents.

The launch version includes reworked areas in the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, more than 1,000 new quests, and new destinations such as Mount Hyjal, Shen’dralas, the Riverglades, and Zephras Isle. Blizzard has described it as a slower, community-focused take on the original WoW journey, with new stories and updates built around older Azeroth rather than a one-time seasonal format.

For now, the main takeaway is simple: WoW: Forever appears to have brought a lot of players back through the door. How that holds over the next few weeks will be the real test, especially once the launch rush settles and players hit the level 60 endgame.
