WoW Forever Is Smoothing Out Grouped Quest Item Drops

World of Warcraft: Forever Classic is adding some behind-the-scenes bad luck protection for quest item drops when players are grouped, developer Josh Greenfield, also known as Aggrend, confirmed on social media.

The change doesn’t turn Classic-style drop quests into fully shared objectives, and Greenfield said the base drop rates aren’t being changed. Instead, the system is meant to keep group members from falling wildly out of sync when they’re killing the same mobs for the same quest items.

In older-style World of Warcraft, that’s been a familiar pain point. One player gets nearly every drop, another gets nothing for several kills, and suddenly grouping feels slower than soloing. Forever’s version still keeps some randomness, but it more predictably rotates progress toward players who’ve been left behind.

Greenfield described it as a way to preserve some of the vanilla grind without making group drop quests feel so feast-or-famine. It also ties into Forever’s broader push to make grouping more natural, alongside features like Recent Allies, which is meant to help players run into each other again after teaming up.

The system is still being tuned in beta, and Greenfield encouraged players who normally avoid grouped drop quests to give them another shot in Forever.
