Ultima Online’s Classic Client Renderer Upgrade Is Now in Beta

Ultima Online’s Classic Client renderer upgrade has entered beta, giving players a first chance to test the move from software rendering to hardware rendering.

The change is aimed at improving frame rate, smoothing out animations, and allowing the gameplay window to scale more cleanly. It’s still a beta, so the UO team is asking players to report bugs and share feedback while testing.

To try it, players need to patch the Classic Client through the regular patcher, then close the patcher once the update is finished. After that, launch client_beta.exe from the Ultima Online installation folder instead of the usual client executable.

Feedback and bug reports are being collected through the official Ultima Online Discord, specifically in the CC Renderer Upgrade Feedback and CC Renderer Upgrade Bug Reports channels.

The team also says more Classic Client work is planned after the upgraded renderer is stable. Future quality-of-life updates will be prioritized based on community feedback, with examples including gridded backpacks and containers, updated radar and map tools, and improved macro support.
