SWTOR outlines update 7.9 for late May and teases 8.0 features for 2026
Broadsword used its latest livestream to show two different parts of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s roadmap: update 7.9, called Legacy Reborn, and the first real details on 8.0.
The immediate one is 7.9. Broadsword says it’s coming in the last week of May, though it won’t land on the Tuesday right after Memorial Day, so that puts it somewhere around May 27 to May 29. The patch wraps up the Legacy of the Sith storyline, adds PvP Season 10, brings in Galactic Season 11 later with 7.9.1, and includes a handful of quality-of-life changes.
8.0 is still much farther out, but the studio did confirm a few big pieces. The update will raise the level cap to 85, add new abilities for every discipline, rebalance combat, and introduce a new gearing system that apparently won’t completely replace what players earn in 7.9. It also adds Ryloth as an explorable planet with dynamic encounters, plus a new three-boss operation. Story and veteran modes are planned first, with master mode arriving later.
Broadsword didn’t give 8.0 a release date. What it did say is that public test server access should begin in the coming months, with a phased rollout of 8.0 features spread across the rest of 2026. So this looks more like a long-form overhaul than a single big expansion drop.
On the 7.9 side, the more practical changes include an overhaul to the companion return terminal. Companions who are unavailable for story reasons will still be accessible under a new “Ineligible for Story” tab, and the Dantooine dynamic encounter intro is being adjusted to make onboarding less clunky.
There are also the usual seasonal extras. Nar Shaddaa Nightlife returns June 30 for six weeks, and May the Fourth promotions start tomorrow. According to the press materials, Twitch drops include a Dantooine poster for watching one hour of live SWTOR streams through May 14, and a Nightshade Hssiss mount once 7.9 goes live for players who watch four hours.
