Ashes of Creation court fight hits new dispute over scope of outside receiver
The legal fight around Ashes of Creation and Intrepid Studios has moved to another sticking point. Former Intrepid CEO Steven Sharif says both sides were ordered to discuss bringing in a neutral receiver, but they still can’t agree on what that person should actually be allowed to do.
According to a new joint filing, Sharif wants a receiver with authority to preserve company assets, review the debt and foreclosure situation at the center of the case, and investigate related records. The board’s side is taking a narrower position. It says a receiver should be limited to preserving assets and monitoring any foreclosure sale, not examining whether the debt itself is valid.
That matters because the foreclosure dispute is one of the core issues in the broader case. Sharif has accused Intrepid’s board of trying to push him out and take control of the studio through improper actions tied to that debt, while the board has been fighting him in court on its own terms.
The filing also shows other gaps between the two sides. Sharif’s attorneys want the receiver empowered to stop alleged interference from Jason Caramanis, while the board’s attorneys say they don’t accept responsibility for him. The board also argues Sharif should cover the receiver’s costs.
Sharif separately commented on Discord, but the key point here is that the disagreement over the receiver isn’t just one side talking. It’s now in a court document filed by both parties, and they’re asking a magistrate judge to resolve it.
For now, there’s no ruling on that request in the material provided. So the next step is straightforward enough: wait for the court to decide how much access and authority any outside receiver would actually get.
