SWG Legends Is Testing a 64-Bit Client for Star Wars Galaxies
SWG Legends, the long-running private server project for Star Wars Galaxies, is working on a 64-bit client and server architecture for the 2003 MMO. The team said internal testing has started after “huge advancements” over the past month, though there’s no release date yet while testing and tuning continue.
That’s the headline item from the project’s latest monthly update, especially given the age of Star Wars Galaxies and how much of its afterlife now depends on community-run development. A 64-bit client could be a meaningful technical step for the server, but for now the team is keeping expectations measured.
The same update also outlined several smaller pieces in progress. The August Battle of Restuss update is expected to touch up ships, tooltips, the space combat log, quests, and add new rewards. The Halloween event will bring a new zombie R5 unit, while work continues on the Bespin revitalization project, new clothing, and new weapons.
SWG Legends is also testing a new PvP feature called the Event Arena, or PvP Arena. It’s designed to let the team spin up temporary PvP zones with leaderboards, custom or randomized teams, free-for-all matches, and last-man-standing rules. The developers said public testing has already happened on Lok, with more spontaneous tests planned as QA continues.
For players still active on SWG Legends, the 64-bit work is the thing to watch. It’s not ready yet, but it’s a notable infrastructure project for a fan-run version of a game that officially shut down more than a decade ago.
