Star Citizen Alpha 4.9 Adds New Missions, New Fighter, and Bug Fixes

Star Citizen’s alpha 4.9 update is now out, bringing a mix of new content and a long list of bug fixes. This is the revised version of 4.9, after Cloud Imperium Games previously moved some larger features to a later release so it could focus more heavily on stability and cleanup.

The patch appears to target a wide spread of recurring issues, including problems tied to freight elevators, missions, containers, weapons, and other in-game systems. CIG had already cautioned that this update wouldn’t fix every major bug, but players who’ve been waiting on specific pain points may want to check the notes and jump back in to see what’s changed.

  • Several new missions have been added.
  • Ship combat UI has been updated.
  • Distribution centers have received a refresh.
  • The Grey’s Market Basher, a very small fighter built around forward-facing firepower, is now available.
  • New hairstyles, combat clothing, and the Bullpup rifle have been added.
  • Laser mining has received buffs.

The Grey’s Market Basher sounds like the standout addition for combat-focused players. It gives up durability and armor in exchange for packing as many guns as possible onto a tiny frame, so expect it to be more about aggression than survivability.

As usual with Star Citizen alpha updates, the bigger question is how the fixes hold up once players get their hands on the build at scale. For now, 4.9 looks like a practical patch: some new things to chase, some systems touched up, and a lot of smaller bugs getting attention.
