Path of Exile’s Curse of the Allflame Expansion Launches July 24
Path of Exile’s next expansion (the original, not Path of Exile 2), Curse of the Allflame, launches July 24 PDT on all available platforms, and it’s free to play as usual. The new challenge league sends players after sunken treasure off the coast of Wraeclast, using Charts to board The Sovereign and plan dives into dangerous underwater areas.
The core loop is built around short trips to the ocean floor, where Allflame lanterns keep players safe while they grab loot, open chests, and fight whatever is waiting in the dark. Stay too long and the light fades, forcing a run back to the Bathysphere. Charts can also be connected into larger Voyages, letting players revisit mapped areas and stack modifiers for better rewards.
There’s a lot more coming with the expansion, but the big systems are easy to pick out:
- The new Allflame crafting system lets players feed an item into the ship’s engine and choose from several ghostly outcomes, with Ducats used to further alter items.
- Mercenaries of Trarthus return. Beat one in a duel and you can take an item they’re carrying and recruit them for the area.
- The Scion gets a new Ascendancy, the Luminary, which can keep a Mercenary as a permanent combat ally and customize their equipment.
- Abyss is being reworked with more active encounters, refreshed rewards, new Scarab support, and passive tree investment.
- Legion rewards are changing, with Enshrouding Crystals used to create Vestigial Unique Items. These replace Incubators.
- Atlas Anomalies can appear after completing Maps affected by Voidstones, opening one-run areas with special rewards.
Socket colors are also getting a major change. Red, green, and blue sockets will no longer restrict which skill gems can be placed in them. Instead, matching a gem to the socket color grants extra quality.
Spellcasters are getting a broad rebalance too, including changes to more than 100 spells, new or reworked caster-focused Ascendancy notables for Assassin, Inquisitor, and Occultist, and new Exceptional Skill Gems called Pacts. Two new Supporter Pack lines, Plague and Remidus, will also arrive alongside the expansion.
More details are available on the official expansion site.
