Star Trek Online Adds Opt-In Graphics Upgrades on PC and Changes Infinity Lock Box Rewards
Star Trek Online’s Fall of the Old Ones event went live on October 22 with a set of experimental graphics options on PC. They’re off by default, so nothing changes unless players manually turn them on in the Advanced tab of the options menu.
The new settings are most visible on the Castle Pyris maps updated for the event, including the Cat’s Tale Task Force Operation and the Skeleton Crew and Witches Brew patrols. Cryptic says some features may come to console later, once they’re stable enough.
- Volumetric lighting adds sun rays, light shafts, and illuminated fog on supported maps.
- Parallax occlusion mapping gives selected flat surfaces a stronger sense of depth.
- Space soft shadows make shadow edges look less harsh on most space maps.
- Foot to Ground IK adjusts humanoid animations so feet better match terrain.
- Screen space reflections add real-time reflections in some ground-map situations.
- Volumetric clouds and cloud shadows are listed as coming soon.
The same update also reworks parts of the Infinity Lock Box. Tier 5 and submax ship prizes have been removed from the box and are planned to return through other acquisition methods later. Duty Officer, Special Assignment, Kit Frame, and Kit Module rewards now use choice packs tied to past lock boxes, though the final item from that chosen pool is still random.
Deep Space Encounters also got a small change. Strange golden anomalies can now appear during encounters, and destroying them may grant rewards. On console, DSE boons and sector space collectibles have been disabled while Cryptic works on a redesign.
On PC, players who bought the 60th Anniversary Starship Icons Prize Pack 60-pack bundle can claim a free bonus 10-pack from the Zen Store’s Promotions tab. All Starship Bundles are now giftable on PC as well. The Fantastic Voyage Bundle has also been added to the Zen Store with tradeable items, though its contents can’t be reclaimed after purchase.
