SpiritVale Heads to Steam Early Access After Beating Its Kickstarter Goal
SpiritVale, a class-based action MMORPG from Melbourne developer Phil Yum, is set to launch in Steam Early Access on July 15. The game recently wrapped its Kickstarter with AU$357,436 from 3,066 backers, well above its AU$75,000 goal.
The early access version will be a roughly $15 buy-to-play release with no subscription. According to the Steam page, SpiritVale is built around action combat, class progression, monster grinding, loot, and social play, with a cosmetic and quality-of-life shop planned.
SpiritVale has drawn a lot of comparisons to Ragnarok Online, and that influence is pretty clear. At launch, players can pick from seven base classes: Acolyte, Mage, Summoner, Knight, Warrior, Scout, and Rogue. Each can advance into a specialization at job level 50, while the Weaver acts as an alternate advanced job available to any base class.
The game leans heavily into buildcrafting. Gear can drop with bonus stats, be refined, and fitted into a wider progression web that includes monster cards, artifacts, gems, grimoires, and essences. Classes are defined more by skills than strict gear rules, so players can experiment with oddball setups if they want.
At early access launch, SpiritVale is expected to include more than 30 maps, over 230 monsters, 20-plus bosses, 12-player parties, linked servers, trading, vending stalls, and an Arena PvP mode. One notable design choice: there doesn’t appear to be a traditional questing structure outside job advancement, so progression is mostly grind and party play.
The Kickstarter also unlocked stretch goals including cosmetic weapons, new PvE and PvP maps, challenge modes, dyeing, marriage, a gear aging system, and an expanded card system. Some larger goals, including housing and dynamic events, did not make the cut.
Baikun Interactive expects early access to last six to twelve months, with plans for more classes, biomes, dungeons, bosses, controller support, Steam Deck support, and interface polish before full release.
