Spiral Knights gets a rare major update with new PvP, player-made arenas, and more servers
Spiral Knights just got one of its biggest updates in years. Grey Havens has rolled out a new patch for the long-running free-to-play action MMO, adding a free-for-all PvP mode called Super Brawl, a level editor for PvP maps, and new regional servers for Australia and Brazil.
According to the official post, the update also adds accessory slots, new movement commands, UI and chat text scaling, and performance improvements. For a game that has mostly been in maintenance mode for a long time, it’s a notable drop.
The biggest addition is The Coliseum Crucible, a PvP level editor that lets players build arenas that could eventually make it into the game. Super Brawl is the other headline feature, giving players a new free-for-all mode to use those maps in.
On the technical side, Grey Havens says it updated both the server and client Java versions to help the game run better and reduce lag. The new Australia and Brazil servers should also help players in those regions with connection quality.
If you’re jumping back in now, the game’s anniversary event is still running for another week. Spiral Knights originally launched in 2011, and meaningful updates have been pretty sparse since Grey Havens took over the game from Three Rings in 2016, which makes this patch stand out more than usual.
