Sega Sammy Sales Rise 17% as Games Division Beats Forecasts

Sega Sammy posted higher first-quarter sales for the three months ended June 30, 2026, with net sales up 17.3% to ¥95 billion, or about $600 million. Its Entertainment Contents division, which includes Sega’s games business, came in ahead of forecast at ¥68.4 billion, or about $432 million.

The company said major game releases are weighted toward the third quarter and later, so this wasn’t a quarter driven by big new launches. Even so, operating income improved to ¥2.3 billion, around $14.5 million, after an operating loss in the same period last year.

  • Net sales reached ¥95 billion, up 17.3% year over year.
  • Entertainment Contents net sales were ¥68.4 billion, up 1.1%.
  • Operating income was ¥2.3 billion, compared with a loss a year earlier.
  • Full-game sales, licensing revenue, and Rovio contributed positively.

Sega said free-to-play games “fell slightly short of expectations,” and it plans to strengthen operations around existing titles. The company also pointed to licensing as an area it expects to grow in the coming quarters, helped by anniversaries, adaptations of existing IP, and new Rovio titles.

On the premium games side, Sega said key releases for the fiscal year will arrive sequentially from Q3 onward. Stranger Than Heaven is currently listed for January, while Persona 4 Revival is listed for February. The company said wishlist numbers and video views for upcoming titles are looking favorable, though it did not break out specific figures.

Rovio remains a notable part of the story. Sega bought the Angry Birds developer in 2023, but earlier this year it recorded a $200 million impairment loss tied to the studio. Sega CEO Haruki Satomi previously blamed rapid market changes and challenges with implementing Rovio’s Beacon technology in Sega mobile games.
