RuneScape passes $4 billion in lifetime revenue as it marks 25 years

RuneScape and Old School RuneScape have now brought in more than £3 billion (about $4 billion) in lifetime revenue, according to UK game industry trade body UK Interactive Entertainment (UKIE). The milestone lands as Jagex celebrates the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

UKIE also notes that Cambridge-based Jagex currently employs more than 600 people. In a statement shared with the announcement, CEO Jon Bellamy pointed back to RuneScape’s start as a Java browser game and credited the community for helping the series reach the mark.

The revenue news follows Jagex’s recent RS25 plans, an anniversary celebration that includes a run of livestreams and game updates scheduled across January. Jagex has said the event will cover RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape Dragonwilds.

It’s also arriving after a rougher stretch for the studio. In June 2025, Jagex said it laid off an unspecified number of employees in “non-game development roles,” with most of the cuts affecting operations and administrative support. The company did not share an exact headcount.

That same month, the studio faced criticism over its decision to step back from Pride Month in-game events starting in 2025. In a later interview, Bellamy said the move was made to avoid backlash, describing Pride content as “controversial in a way it didn’t use to be,” and framed it as part of protecting the game’s future.
