RuneScape combat refresh shifts players off Necromancy, with more balance tweaks on the way

RuneScape’s recent “combat styles modernization” update is already changing what people are playing, and Jagex says more tweaks are coming based on early data and feedback. The big headline: Necromancy is still the most-used style, but its share dropped hard right after the patch went live.

According to Jagex’s official post, Necromancy usage fell from 60% before the update to 37% on March 2, the day the patch released. Ranged, still the least-used overall, jumped from 7% to 13% over the same window.

Jagex says it’s taking that momentum and now looking at where things are getting out of line. Necromancy is getting a new Invention perk called Equilibrium, aimed at late-game play, and it’ll come from a new component.

Ranged has generally landed well, but Jagex is still not happy with how ammo works in practice, so it’s planning mechanical adjustments there.

Melee is seeing a lot more play too, but Jagex claims it’s overperforming in fully AFK Revolution bars and in PvM. The studio didn’t list every number in the summary, but it says a few nerfs are coming to bring it back in line.

Magic also got a positive response overall, though Jagex says a couple of changes have pushed the top end into “overpowered” territory. Expect some targeted nerfs there as well, with the team watching how the meta settles.

On the cosmetics side, the March Marketplace drop is live with items like the Sandwich Seller Bundle, which includes an outfit and Crusty Baguette offhand variants. Jagex also rotated a batch of older items back into stock.
