Riot Will End Active Development on 2XKO in December 2026

Riot Games is winding down active development on 2XKO at the end of 2026, citing player retention and engagement that haven’t reached a sustainable level. The tag fighter will remain playable after that point, with online servers staying up beyond 2026 and offline play unaffected.

According to Riot’s official announcement, the team still plans to release more content through the rest of 2026, including Lux and Samira as new champions, feature improvements, balance changes, and a final bug-fix patch planned for December.

  • All champions will be unlocked for players in patch 1.3.1, due in September.
  • Most cosmetic items will be bundled, while avatar and player profile items will be unlockable with Credits.
  • Riot is refunding money spent in 2XKO on or before August 20.
  • KO Points purchases have been disabled as of August 20.
  • Any content players already own will remain on their accounts.

Refunds cover KO Points and 2XKO Starter Edition purchases made before August 20. On PC, Riot says refunds will go back to the original payment method, with most expected within two weeks and all PC refunds targeted for completion by November 2026. PlayStation and Xbox refunds will be handled through their respective platform providers, while Japan and Korea server refunds will follow local requirements.

Riot said 2XKO drew a dedicated group of fighting game players and saw positive moments around updates like Akali, Senna, Thresh, The Climb PvE mode, and competitive events. Still, the company said those bumps didn’t lead to sustained growth, and the game continued to cost “substantially more” to run than it brought in.

For now, players can keep playing on all supported platforms. Riot says it will give advance notice if its plans for servers or online play change later.
