PSO2: New Genesis adds Chapter 8, a new Slayer skill, and April limited-time quests

SEGA has outlined its April 2026 update plans for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, with the biggest additions being Main Story Chapter 8, a new Slayer class skill, several limited-time quests, and a new high-difficulty fight against Luther. The full rundown was shared in the latest NGS Headline WAVE.

Chapter 8 goes live on April 1 and picks up after Vael’s defeat, sending players into the Alter Realm after contact is lost with a research team. On the combat side, Slayer gets a new active skill called Gunblade Focus Extra Drive. It uses three levels of the Gunblade Focus Gauge to power up Relentless Blade and lets players fire one boosted Slug Shot. SEGA also said balance changes are coming for Slayer and Gunblade abilities.

April is also packed with rotating limited-time quests. Invasion on Shifting Sands starts April 1 as an 8-player run through the Alter Realm’s North Desert Area, with a route update arriving April 8. After that, Drill: Fierce Warlord Arena launches April 15 for four players, followed by the 8-player Drill: Flaming Wave Dash on April 22 and the solo Drill: Flaming Hell Dash on April 28. The last of those will also have ARKS Records attached.

Another notable addition lands April 7 with Major Target Suppression Mission: Luther, False Conqueror Manifest. It’s a four-player high-difficulty quest featuring a stronger Malignant Ruine Luther, with the usual failure condition tied to too many incapacitations.

  • The 14-star Leafladio weapon series can be upgraded into the 14-star Arbaradio series, which keeps the same Potentials but adds better stats and periodic HP recovery.
  • Three new Skill Rings are being added, including one tied to enemy downs and two that trigger when Photon Blast is used.
  • Line Strike is getting 19 new cards, including cards that change effects by turn and others built to counter movement-heavy strategies.
  • Super Origin Festival ’26 begins April 22, bringing anniversary decorations to Central City, event NPC Xiemi, and themed tasks with rewards like N-Master Cubes and Arms Refiner II.

The returning limited-time Urgent Quest Omen of the Planetbreaker D.2 is also coming back in a tougher form, this time against Malignant Dark Falz Solus. More details on the month’s content are available in SEGA’s official post.
