Project Gorgon hits 1.0, leaves Early Access with a new capital city and a fresh shard next week

Project Gorgon has officially launched version 1.0 today, ending its long run in Early Access. The fantasy MMORPG is now out as a buy-to-play game, with an optional VIP subscription for players who want extra perks.

Current characters are carrying over with no wipe. If you’d rather start on an even playing field, the developers also plan to open a second shard next week that’s meant to be a completely fresh server.

Project: Gorgon has often been pitched as a spiritual successor to Asheron’s Call, led by Asheron’s Call veteran Eric Heimburg alongside the late Sandra Powers. It sticks to a classless, skill-based setup, letting you mix and match progression based on what you actually do in-game.

One practical note for existing players: because 1.0 brings in new character models, you’ll need to re-style your character’s appearance using the new avatar generator.

The biggest new piece of 1.0 content is Statehelm, a new capital city that’s positioned as the game’s largest and most complex map so far. The launch build includes more than 200 quests in Statehelm, training that goes to level 100+ for all combat skills and most crafting skills, and over 750 unlockable storage spots. The devs are also framing Statehelm as a hub for max-level players and a place where future content will be added.

For a deeper breakdown of what made it into the 1.0 build, the developers posted more details in an announcement on the game’s Steam page.
