Overwatch’s Reign of Talon season hit a player-count milestone, and Blizzard’s pointing to sub-roles
Blizzard says Overwatch just pulled off something it hasn’t managed since Overwatch 2 launched in 2022: the current Reign of Talon season had a higher daily player count in its second weekend than it did on launch weekend. The studio didn’t share exact numbers, but it’s framing the bump as a notable milestone for the hero shooter.
Alongside that, Blizzard is also trying to make sure players don’t miss one of the season’s bigger gameplay additions: sub-roles. According to the official post, sub-roles are “focused passives” tied to both a hero and their main role, and you can dig into the details in-game via the advanced info panel.
Separate from the main game, Blizzard also shared another look at Overwatch Rush, an in-development, top-down shooter designed for mobile. The company describes it as a new game rather than a straight mobile version of Overwatch, and says testing is currently limited to certain countries. Blizzard’s development update includes an early gameplay preview video.
The same roundup also included a quick note for Diablo II: Resurrected: Blizzard is running a hardcore ladder race tied to the Warlock’s arrival, challenging players to hit level 99. The first 300 verified winners will get their names engraved on a statue at Blizzard’s campus, and a recent patch is largely focused on bug fixes.
