Overwatch’s Next Support Hero Doctrine Gets a Trial Before Season 5
Blizzard revealed Overwatch’s next Support hero, Doctrine, during BlizzCon 2026, along with the main pieces of Season 5’s final act. Doctrine is Hero 54, a vampire-inspired Support tied to Doomfist, and players can try him now in a limited-time Hero Trial running from September 12 through September 14.
Doctrine uses a scepter, lifeforce infusions, and bat-like drones, according to Blizzard’s reveal. His full roster debut is planned for Season 5, which launches October 6 and wraps up Act 3 of The Reign of Talon, the game’s first year-long story arc.
Season 5 also adds Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, a new Escort map set inside an Icelandic volcano prison. The map ties into the latest story beat, with the Breakout hero trailer showing Doomfist and his allies freeing Doctrine from the facility.
Two major hero reworks are also coming with the season. Sombra is being moved from Damage to Support, while Roadhog is getting a rework of his own. Blizzard also teased Hero 55 for 2027, with more of the game’s roadmap expected during the next Overwatch Spotlight in February 2027.
BlizzCon players can also claim a Mythic Gift by playing one match after the Opening Ceremony. The reward is a Mythic Voucher, redeemable for one eligible complete Mythic bundle from Seasons 1 through 14. Players who already own every eligible base Mythic instead get 50 Mythic Prisms. The voucher can be earned and redeemed through October 5, but Aspects aren’t included.
Blizzard is also running several Overwatch-related BlizzCon events, including the QuestWatch TTRPG one-shot with Matt Mercer on September 13, the Overwatch World Cup finals, performances from YOASOBI and LE SSERAFIM, and a new LE SSERAFIM in-game collaboration that’s available now.
