New World: Aeternum Patch Lowers Player Requirements and Grants Steam Achievements

New World: Aeternum is getting another maintenance patch on June 23, with downtime starting at 9 AM PT, noon ET, and expected to last about two hours. The update continues Amazon’s recent push to make more of the MMO playable with smaller groups as the game heads toward its planned shutdown in January.

According to the game status post, the patch will also grant 10 Steam achievements to players who already met the requirements but didn’t receive them properly.

  • Hive of Gorgons, Trial of the Devourer, The Hatchery, Winter Rune Forge, and Isle of Night will only require five players.
  • 3v3 Arena will be playable as 1v1, effectively turning it into a duel arena.
  • The UI will still show 3v3 Arena, even though the lower player requirement will be active.
  • Players can still run 3v3 if enough people are available.
  • Territory and Umbral drop rates are being increased by 3x.
  • Outpost Rush and Capture the Flag rotation will be disabled on Devaloka and Delos, which serve South America and Asia-Pacific regions.

The achievement fixes cover faction missions, war wins, and other progression goals listed in the status update. The bigger practical change is the continued trimming of group-size requirements, which should make late-game activities less dependent on full queues or organized groups during the game’s final stretch.
