Marathon opens Cryo Archive endgame zone after community ARG solve

Bungie has opened the first endgame area in Marathon, with players unlocking the new Cryo Archive zone after working through an ARG tied to the game. According to the announcement, the area is now live.

Cryo Archive is described as a high-intensity zone inside the UESC Marathon, built around Vault chases and seven loot vaults. Bungie says the space includes six wings made up of cryopods, medical bays, and storage sections.

There are a few requirements before you can get in. Players need to be level 25, unlock all factions, and bring a loadout worth at least 5,000 credits. Bungie also says the zone includes unique rewards, including skins for all Runners.

For players who haven’t been keeping up, Marathon is Bungie’s PvPvE extraction shooter, so this is basically its first proper endgame destination. The bigger takeaway here is that Bungie tied the unlock to a community puzzle rather than just flipping the switch on an update.

Bungie also released a launch trailer alongside the unlock, but the main news is simple enough: the Cryo Archive is open, and high-level players can start running it now.
