LOTRO’s Wolves of Mordor expansion launches October 21, pre-orders open now

Standing Stone Games has opened pre-orders for The Lord of the Rings Online’s next expansion, The Wolves of Mordor, alongside Update 49.6: In Good Company, Patch 6. The expansion is currently scheduled to launch on October 21, 2026.

The store page also includes delay protections, stating that expansion content and items would arrive no later than November 20, 2026 if pushed back, while instance and raid content would arrive no later than 90 days after the expansion’s content launch.

The Wolves of Mordor takes players to Draugardh, a remote part of Mordor beyond Gorgoroth. The expansion covers three new regions: the scorched Heledhris, the plains of Parth Rhavas, and the forests of Nan Ogol. Its main threat is the were-wolves of Mordor, which SSG is distinguishing from Wargs or oversized wolves.

Pre-order pricing is listed at $40 for the Standard Edition, $80 for the Collector’s Edition, and $130 for the Ultimate Edition. Higher tiers include Were-wolf Hunter cosmetics, Scar the Hunter’s Hound pet, and other extras, while the Ultimate Edition adds perks such as a level-up earring.

One feature is available right away with a pre-purchase: Neighbours. These are housing companions who can move into a player home, build relationships through stories, gifts, and daily missions, and react through personality traits and mood changes.

Update 49.6 also brings a few live-game changes outside the expansion rollout:

  • Lua plugins can now opt into UI scaling through “Use Global Scaling” in the Plugin Manager.
  • Lua documentation is now available as a downloadable zip from LOTRO.com.
  • Veil of the Nine festival behavior has been adjusted.
  • Artifact and Relic CTF events in the Ettenmoors have been reworked on the technical side for stability.
  • Glory Seeking is now temporarily suppressed when carrying an artifact or relic instead of being permanently removed.

The expansion’s Draugardh-specific progression system, Survival Instincts, is still part of the package after being previewed during public testing.
