John Romero to Keynote Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok

John Romero will headline the business conference at this year’s Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok. The id Software co-founder’s keynote is titled “Why We Still Make Games” and will cover his career in games, setbacks along the way, and how the industry has changed over the decades.

The event runs from October 29 to November 1 in Bangkok. Other confirmed business-area speakers include AdHoc Studio co-founders Nick Herman and Dennis Lenart, Roblox VP and Head of International Zhen Fang, Tencent’s Jane Lau, Godot executive director Emilio Coppola, and DigixArt founder Yoan Fanise.

Romero now runs Romero Games with Brenda Romero. The studio had a rough year after funding was pulled from a big-budget FPS, which led to layoffs and the cancellation of that project.

This will also be the second year of the combined Gamescom Asia and Thailand Game Show format, after Gamescom Asia moved on from its original Singapore run. Organizers say the 2025 show will expand its floor space by 20% to 35,000 square meters, following last year’s reported attendance of 206,169 people.

Confirmed exhibitors include Nintendo, Capcom, Sega, The Pokémon Company, Bandai Namco, and AMD. Gamescom Asia and Thailand Game Show first announced their partnership in an official post earlier this year.
